Mitchell T. Ness CSC

With a Bachelor of Applied Arts (Honours) from the Ryerson Image Arts Program (1986), Mitch set his early career goals as a young aspiring Director of Photography working on many independent dramas and documentaries. During this period he created, produced and directed Grand Illusions: The Story of Magic – a 50 episode documentary series on the history of magic for the Discovery Channel. It was while developing this series that he discovered his passion for directing.

As a Director of Photography, Mitch has photographed more then 500 episodes of series television, numerous movies of the week and feature films, and more than 40 hours of completed documentary work. His DOP credits include the award winning feature film Amal, two Anne of Green Gables television MOW's and the television series Skins USA, Degrassi, The Next Step, Overlord and the Underwoods, Holly Hobbie, Republic of Doyle, Covert Affairs, Life With Boys, Naturally Sadie, The Latest Buzz and Wingin It.

Mitch's directorial history includes over 150 episodes of television including Degrassi, The Next Step, Covert Affairs, Holly Hobbie, Make It Pop, Lost & Found Music Studios, Wingin It, Overruled, Naturally Sadie, The Latest Buzz and Black Hole High.

Through his company Lightness Inc., Mitch has acquired more than 35 years of experience in the film and television industry and has garnered 4 Gemini nominations, 4 CSC nominations and a Golden Sheaf Award for Best Cinematography from the Yorkton Film Festival. Mitch's exceptional knowledge of the business of film and production has been an invaluable asset with a true understanding of all aspects of the business.
